Torrey Johnson Senior Citizens Center has joined the Be More movement! Director, Judy Harbison, and Assistant, Shirley Mroczkowski, have started encouraging seniors to make healthier choices. It all started with their new garden. They have documented the garden’s progress and have also shown us the various ways they are utilizing the produce, on their Facebook page. From cooking with their own freshly grown herbs to finding a healthier alternative to oil frying, they have started on their journey to live a healthier life. The vegetables grown in their garden are used in meals served at the center and are also delivered to homes through the Meals on Wheels program. Be on the lookout for more news from the senior center – they are just getting started!
Torrey Johnson Senior Citizens Center is open Monday-Friday, 8:00am-2:00pm, with various activities each day for adults aged 55 and up. They also partner with UT Extension and the Humphreys County Health Department to offer health and wellness-related programs. You can stop by 206 N. Church St. in Waverly or call them at 931-296-2979 for more information.
